Depression is a prolonged experience of low mood, often accompanied by low motivation and low energy levels, as well of feelings of hopelessness. Typically people with Depression experience negative thoughts and will often avoid the activities that they would usually enjoy doing.
Depression can be triggered by a difficult life event or a chemical imbalance (sometimes related to seasonal or hormonal changes) and can be experienced as a single episode or as recurrent depression.
There is often an interlink between Depression and other difficulties such as Anxiety, Low Self-esteem, Difficulties with Assertiveness, Social Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and many others.
